We extend a seven-day health guarantee on all birds sold, such that the price of a bird will be refunded in full if a) it is dead upon arrival or b) the bird does not survive the first seven days in a new home and a licensed veterinarian determines via necropsy the cause of death to be disease (genetic or infectious) or injury incurred prior to acquisition. This warranty is ONLY valid if new owners abide by responsible husbandry practices. These include: 1) quarantining new bird and keeping it separate from all other pets for 30 days 2) feeding the bird as instructed and not making any sudden dietary changes 3) refraining from using non-stick or Teflon-coated cookware, or self-cleaning oven feature 4) refraining from using candles, aerosol sprays, oil diffusers, paint, or varnish in the presence of the bird 5) not letting dogs or cats come into close proximity of the bird 6) providing the bird with an appropriately-sized cage with no rust or chipping paint, and with appropriate bar spacing size 7) keeping handling at a minimum for the first three days 8) making sure food and water is easily accessible for the first few days (hanging in bowls on side of cage or on floor of cage in shallow bowls) 9) placing the cage in a well-lit, low-stress area of the house with temperature between 66 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit 10) not giving the bird rope perches or toys with choking hazards or sharp edges; jingle/acorn bells are a definite safety hazard 11) not allowing the bird to eat after you as human (as well as dog and cat) saliva is toxic to birds.
